Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta (Photo by Clive Rose/Getty Images) Understandably, given Chelsea's splurge on playmakers in the January transfer window, the purchase of Cesar Azpilicueta for seven million pounds from Marseille slipped under the radar. Yet the Spanish right-back is proving to be a canny signing following recent performances in which he has asserted himself as a high calibre defender in the Premier League. It'd be excessive to suggest that Chelsea have struck a long-term starter in Azpilicueta, but the signs are looking very good indeed. Azpilicueta's been a permanent fixture on the right side of the defence in every game of the controversial Rafael Benitez era. In John Terry's absence, he's asserted himself as a capable replacement for Branislav Ivanovic, who has been shifted into the centre. Ivanovic is a fine player but ... ~Chelsea News~
