Harry Redknapp is adamant he can save Queens Park Rangers from relegation, despite their 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool.
The defeat left QPR eight points off safety and means they will go into the new year with just one victory from 20 Premier League games.
The club’s fifth home defeat of the season was inflicted thanks to a Luis Suarez brace and a Daniel Agger strike, with the goals coming within 27 minutes of kick-off.
Although Redknapp, who replaced Mark Hughes at Loftus Road, admitted his team had been ‘run ragged’, he insisted QPR could be playing in the Premier League next season.
‘I think we’ll stay up still,’ he said. ‘You’ll think we’re mad, but I think we will stay up.
‘I only want positive people around me, I said that in the dressing room.
‘Those that are moping around, the subs that are not playing, are not playing because they’re no good.
‘If they had been any good, I’d be picking them. I don’t need miserable faces, I don’t need them around me.’
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager continued: ‘I need people who are upbeat. The next two games are unbelievable, Chelsea away and Tottenham at home – two of the best teams in the country.
‘They are difficult games, but we’ve got to keep going and I still think we’ll do it.’
He added: ‘The first half was difficult but second half I thought we did OK, but it’s hard. They’ve got better quality than we had, everywhere. It was a very difficult game.
‘It did hurt, but what can you do? It’s hard. It can happen, being smashed by Liverpool. It can happen on their day.’
When asked about any new additions in the January transfer window, Redknapp was coy, preferring to look for answers within his existing squad.
‘I’m not sure, really. We’ll see. If we can find the right players, get one or two in to make the difference,’ he said.
‘We need to get Bobby Zamora fit to give us a target up there. He could make a difference.’
