First Beckham now Weah: Chelsea hand trial to star's son

After recently handing a trial to David Beckham's eldest son, Brooklyn, Chelsea are now running the rule over another talented teenager with a famous father.

Timmy Weah, son of of former World Player of the Year, George, has been taken on by the Blues as he looks to follow in his father's footsteps at Stamford Bridge.

Weah Snr spent six month on loan at the Blues in 2000 before eventually calling time on his career after a two-year spell with UAE giants Al Jazira.

"He is talented," George told talkSPORT about his son. "We just wanted to give him the opportunity and we also want him to enjoy the game he has passion for. I brought him to Chelsea just for a trial and for a different experience."

He added: "When I left London, I kept ties with Chelsea and when my son wanted to come to England to play, the first person I called was my daddy, Gary Staker [the club's liaison officer].

"Gary made it happen and Timothy is enjoying it. He has started training already and he is happy."

Timmy will have to go some to eclipse his father's achievements with George named World Player of the Year in 1995 and later the African Player of the Century.

The Liberian brought the curtain down on his career at the age of 37 in 2003 having starred for Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Marseille. He scored 228 goals in 474 games in total.
