Mark Clattenburg to be investigated by the Metropolitan Police

After being reported to the Premier League match delegate after the Chelsea - Manchester United match on Sunday for allegedly using inappropriate language toward two Chelsea players, -- These players are believed to be Juan Mata and John Obi Mikel, with the remarks involving Mikel believed to have a racial component. -- referee Mark Clattenburg was already the subject of an FA investigation. In addition, Peter Herbert, the lawyer made [in]famous as the man behind the recently-mooted Black Players' Union, has reported the incident to the Metropolitan Police. They have announced today that they will open an investigation.

It should be noted that neither Chelsea nor the FA have anything to do with reporting the allegation to the MPS, and that we don't have much in the way of concrete evidence. It's a tough time for everyone. We have no idea what's going to happen as a result, and maybe we're not taking a clear look at it yet. We need to take the time to let the police do their work on this one. If you remember the similar investigation of John Terry last year, you'll know it might be a while before anything is known. Top up you beverage, get your popcorn, and buckle up, folks. This is probably going to be a long and bumpy road from here on out.

More as we get it.
