Chelsea must address their need for another striker in the next transfer window by adding 19-year-old forward Romelu Lukaku to the squad instead of making a monster bid for Atletico Madrid star Radamel Falcao.
Per Sky Sports:
Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that Chelsea have the option of recalling Romelu Lukaku from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.
The Blues lost 3-2 to Manchester United on Sunday in an exciting match that included striker Fernando Torres receiving a red card after receiving a second yellow card for diving from referee Mark Clattenburg.
Torres has not been awful this season, but he has not drastically improved from his disappointing 2011-12 campaign. The Spanish star has four league goals in nine games this year, but he hasn't been able to recapture the world-class form he displayed so often at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Lukaku's performance on Sunday versus Newcastle was sensational. His second-half goal was almost enough to earn West Brom a point, but Papiss Cisse scored an injury-time winner for Newcastle.
Chelsea are still missing a strong presence at striker, one who can muscle defenders and win battles in the air. Lukaku can satisfy those needs for the Blues.
Having a young striker play a prominent role in a major club like Chelsea can be too much for some players to handle. But Lukaku won't have to dominate at striker to help the squad, and he doesn't have to carry the team's attack. He won't be under immense pressure to play at a high level, he just has to be consistent.
Di Matteo must give Lukaku another chance with the Blues, which would give him some consistent playing time and push Torres to perform better.
