The Best XI Made Up Of 2012/13 Premier League Signings

Michu ArsenalStarting eleven of the best transfer dealings made in the Premier League this season.

Check in to Sunderland vs Manchester United

lloris

Keeper

Hugo Lloris – Lyon to Tottenham – £8.5 million

Lloris arrival at White Hart Lane during the summer raised a few eyebrows as the club already had one of the finest goalkeepers in the Premier League in the form of Brad Friedel. The American goalkeeper was not getting any younger at the age of 41, but he was just coming off the back of another fine season with Spurs. Lloris initially found himself on the bench but following some outstanding displays, had now firmly dislodged Friedel as the number one at White Hart Lane.

Monreal Swansea City

Left-Back

Nacho Monreal – Malaga to Arsenal – £8.5 million

When Monreal followed in the footsteps of Santi Cazorla by making the move from Malaga to the Emirates Stadium this January, there were many followers in the English game who hadn't heard of the Spanish left-back. Monreal has quickly proven what he is capable of though with some fine displays for Arsenal at left-back. The Spanish defender hit his first goal for the club during the 2-0 win over Swansea and looks set to become a mainstay of the Arsenal team for seasons to come.

Nathaniel Clyne 1 COS

Right-Back

Nathaniel Clyne – Crystal Palace to Southampton - free

While a lot of the attention has been on the opposite flank this season following the emergence of young left-back Luke Shaw, Nathaniel Clyne has been quietly getting on with a more than impressive season. The right-back is still only 21 and looks to have a bright future ahead of him and Southampton will do well to hold on to the youngster should he maintain his form from this season.

Vertonghen Swansea City

Centre-Back

Jan Vertonghen – Ajax to Tottenham – undisclosed

Vertonghen upset many at the Emirates Stadium, including his Belgian national team-mate Thomas Vermaelen, by choosing to join Tottenham instead of Arsenal this season. Spurs fans have been grateful ever since as the player has put in some great performances for their side this season. Capable of playing at centre-back, left-back or in midfield, the versatile Belgian is rapidly becoming a fan's favourite on account of his blistering long shots.

FBL-ENG-LCUP-BRADFORD-SWANSEA

Centre-Back

Chico Flores – Genoa to Swansea – £2 million

There were concerns at the Liberty Stadium about how the club were going to replace Steven Caulker after he was recalled for the current season by his parent club Tottenham. But those thoughts failed to take into consideration the transfer nous of newly appointed Swansea manager Michael Laudrup. The Dane brought Chico Flores in from Italy for a bargain £2 million fee and the Spanish defender has gone on to form a formidable partnership with Ashley Williams in the middle of the Swans' back four.

Cazorla Reading

Wide Midfield

Santi Cazorla – Malaga to Arsenal – £17 million

Arsenal may have been mourning the loss of Robin Van Persie this season, but it is certain that they would be a lot more unhappy were it not for the mercurial talents of Santi Cazorla. While not a direct replacement for the Dutchman, the Spaniard's ability to pull the strings from a slightly deeper position have meant that Arsenal have missed RVP less than they otherwise might have done. While Cazorla didn't come cheap, he will have been worth every penny should he play a key role in ensuring Arsenal qualify for the Champions League next season.

Eden Hazard Chelsea Reading

Wide Midfield

Eden Hazard – Lille to Chelsea – £33 million

The Belgian youngster arrived at Stamford Bridge with a strong reputation after helping his former side Lille to the French title in 2010-11. Hazard has continued to develop his skills at Chelsea and is looking on his way to becoming one of the best wide midfielders in the world. Frank Lampard has tipped Hazard to follow in the footsteps of the great Gianfranco Zola and become a Chelsea legend and at just 22 years of age, the youngster certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Dembele Lyon

Central-Midfield

Moussa Demeble – Fulham to Tottenham – £16 million

Tottenham fans could have been forgiven for starting the current campaign worried about how the club were going to cope following the sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid. But they needn't have worried as the arrival of Moussa Dembele means the Croatian has barely been missed. There is an argument to be made that the Belgian's superior physical presence makes him a more favourably alternative to the diminutive Modric.

Benteke Liverpool

Striker

Christian Benteke – Genk to Aston Villa – £7.5 million

Aston Villa are currently deadlocked in a tough battle to retain their Premier League status but one thing is for sure, the club would already have been relegated were it not for the goals of Christian Benteke. Villa boss Paul Lambert surprised many when he started the season preferring the Belgian youngster up-front to record signing Darren Bent but the player has gone on to net an impressive 13 goals in the League. Villa will face a battle to hold on to him, regardless of whether they remain in the top flight.

Van Persie Shirt

Striker

Robin Van Persie – Arsenal to Manchester United – £25 million

Sir Alex Ferguson was all set to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski last summer until the deal was suddenly put on hold when it became clear the Robin Van Persie could be available. The Old Trafford boss has not regretted a minute since as his RVP's goals have secured Manchester United a 15 point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The Dutchman has arguably been the difference between United and their rivals Manchester City and Roberto Mancini may well regret not making greater efforts to bring the Dutchman to the Etihad Stadium.

Michu Aston Villa

Support Striker

Michu – Rayo Vallecano – Swansea – £2 million

Another one of Swansea boss Michael Laudrup's masterstrokes, Michu arrived unannounced in the Premier League and has taken the English game by storm. Scouts from across the league are now scouring the Spanish divisions for a bargain of a similar ilk after Michu's goals have fired them into the top half of the Premier League table. The Spaniard was key part of the Swansea side that lifted the League Cup and looks set for a bright future in the game.
