Former England manager Fabio Capello is under consideration to be appointed as Chelsea boss until the end of the season following Rafael Benitez's rant at the club's board and fans.

Benitez confirmed in midweek that his spell as interim manager of Chelsea will come to an end at the end of the season, an announcement which he used to hit out at his treatment by the club's supporters.

And with Chelsea's hierarchy considering pulling the plug on Benitez's stay at Stamford Bridge early, Italian Capello is being linked with taking over the reins until the end of the season, according to The Sunday Mirror.

The 66-year-old Capello left his role as England manager last season when standing down after Chelsea defender John Terry was stripped of the captaincy of his country and replaced with Roy Hodgson.

Capello is now in charge of the Russian national and has an unbeaten record in his seven games in charge, but has expressed a desire to sample life in the Premier League before retiring from the game.

Chelsea could be ready to offer the former AC Milan and Real Madrid boss that chance as they seek a solution to the Benitez crisis since he was appointed interim manager until the end of the season following the dismissal of Champions League winning boss Roberto Di Matteo.
