Chelsea fans continued their open protest against manager Rafa Benitez with banners, chants and booing as the Blues beat West Brom 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Benitez had urged Chelsea fans to ditch their ongoing protests over his appointment, and instead focus on supporting the team, but the cry fell on deaf ears.

The Spaniard was booed as he took his seat in the dugout, while numerous sets of supports held up banners demanding that he leaves the club immediately.

The Blues supporters also sang songs requesting that Jose Mourinho returns to the club, in what ended up being a rather hostile atmosphere.

A first-half Demba Ba strike was the difference for Chelsea, as they edged past a West Brom team who had chances of their own late on, but were never truly at the races.

As for Benitez, he remained calm despite being crowded out with banners ranging from 'the interim one to 'we never wanted you' and even a simple one: '#Rafa Out'.

Chelsea announced yesterday that despite Benitez's criticism of fans and the board in midweek, he will remain in charge of the side until the end of the season.
