Bayern Munich have issued a statement denying they have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund's in-demand striker Robert Lewandowski.
Reports on Thursday claimed Bayern were closing in on a second raid of their Bundesliga rivals in as many days after confirmation of their German record €37million capture of Mario Gotze.
Less than 24 hours after Lewandowski's stunning four-goal display against Real Madrid, his agent Maik Barthel claimed the 24-year-old, out of contract at Dortmund next summer, had agreed terms with another club.
The agent of outgoing Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes added fuel to the fire by claiming Lewandowski was indeed all set to head for the Allianz Arena, despite strong interest from Manchester United.
Enrique Reyes, whose client will be replaced by Pep Guardiola on July 1, said: “Bayern have signed Lewandowski. Yes, right now, they have Lewandowski and Gotze."
The reports have forced Bayern's hand, and while they refuse to say whether they are interested in Lewandowski or not, they have denied reaching a pre-agreement with the prolific striker. "FC Bayern, contrary to these reports, do not have any contract with Robert Lewandowski," read a club statement.
Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has already denied that Lewandowski is set to leave the Westfalendstadion in the summer and says that dialogue with resume with forward soon.
"No, it is not true [that Lewandowski has agreed to move elsewhere]. We don't have any offer of another club," he told German news agency SID. "We will talk about everything with Robert."
He added: "It is true that we have talked about new possibilities. It would be negligent if we did not try to continue to try to keep probably the best striker in Europe.
"If Robert really has an offer from a Bundesliga club, then I would expect them to talk to us, not only the player. To this day, we have received no offer.
"He has a contract with us until 2014 with no exit clause. Our explicit desire is that he stays and plays for us until 2014 at the least."
Lewandowski, who has netted 20 goals in his last 18 games and currently tops the scoring charts in the Bundesliga, has himself remained tight-lipped on the matter.
"We still have a few Bundesliga games left and hopefully two in the Champions League," he said. "That is the most important thing. For anything else we have to wait. I won't comment further."
Manchester United are another side closely monitoring Lewandowski's situation with a representative from the newly-crowned Premier League champions present in Dortmund on Wednesday night.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a confirmed admirer of the striker and watched him net a hat-trick in Dortmund's 5-1 demolition of Bayern in last season's German Cup final.
A possible move to Old Trafford would see Lewandowski link up with his former team-mate Shinji Kagawa, who swapped Dortmund for Manchester last summer in an £17m deal.
Robben and Gomez on their way
Meanwhile, reports on Friday claim incoming Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is willing to listen to offers for Arjen Robben and Mario Gomez this summer as he sets about making his mark at the Allianz Arena.
Despite starting the Germans' 4-0 demolition of Barcelona in midweek, both men have struggled to hold down regular places in the Bayern XI this season and now look set to be surplus to requirements.
A return to England has been mooted for former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben while Gomez has himself been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and Juventus.
