Redknapp admits QPR dressing room discord over wages

Reports that their January training camp in Dubai was akin to a "stag party" hardly helped Queens Park Rangers' cause in their fight against Premier League relegation.

And now with their fate all set to be sealed later on Sunday, disgruntled boss Harry Redknapp, who described those Dubai claims as "disgusting lies", has revealed unrest in the QPR dressing room. The reason? The huge disparity in wages between players.

In a frank admission Redknapp admits the colossal salaries handed out to the likes of fringe players Jose Bosingwa and Park Ji-Sung under previous boss Mark Hughes has irked a number of first-team regulars who are paid considerable less at Loftus Road.

“I’d be a liar if I said there weren’t splits in the camp, and it’s been a big problem," Redknapp is quoted as saying in the Fulham Chronicle.

"It’s been pretty obvious to everybody, and it’s not a problem if you’re at Manchester United with Robin Van Persie and he’s getting 150 grand a week, and others are getting 50 grand, because he’s worth it and he’s that good.

“You have problems when players look at him and him and him, and think, he ain’t done that good.”

Redknapp previously hit out at former Chelsea defender Bosingwa, who reportedly picks up £70,000-a-week at the club, after the Portuguese refused to go on the bench for a Premier League game against Fulham.

Redknapp, who take up the QPR job in November, aslo revealed that the defender's salary eclipsed anything earned by players at his former club Tottenham.

Little wonder then that Redknapp will look to recruit young, ambitious players as he sets about reshaping his QPR squad in the summer and has pointed to the example set by January loan signing Andros Townsend.

The England Under-21 winger joined QPR from fellow London club Spurs until the end of the season and earns a mere fraction of what Bosingwa takes home each week - reportedly as little as £3,000.

“I think you’ve got to look at the loan market for young players who can come and do well for you," said Redknapp. "Andros has been excellent for us and there are others out there like him who are hungry and wanting to show you what they can do."
