Brazilian midfielder Taison has hinted he could be closing in on a move to Chelsea after revealing he took a tour of the club and met with owner Roman Abramovich.
Taison has been a mainstay in the Metalist team since moving from Brazilian side Internacional in 2010 for €16million. But he truly thrust himself into the limelight with a Marco van Basten-esque volley against Rosenborg in the Europa League earlier this season.
And it seems he has set his sights on a move to the Premier League after admitting he has spoken to Abramovich about a potential move.
"I went to England (some weeks ago) just to take a look. I talked to the president," he told Diario Popular.
The 24-year-old was also enthusiastic at the thought of linking up with his old Inter teammate Oscar – part of the growing Brazilian contingent at Chelsea - stating simply: “I want to play with him again.”
Taison’s agent, Diego Dornelles, added fuel to the fire by admitting that the midfielder has options despite Metalist’s eagerness to retain his services.
Dornelles said: “The club want him to stay, but there are many things coming.”
If Taison were to join Chelsea, he would be the latest in a string of Brazilian imports, following in the footsteps of David Luiz, Ramires, Lucas Piazon, and the aforementioned Oscar.
But are the Blues really in need of another tricky, attacking midfielder? It’s difficult to comprehend where Taison would fit into the team with Eden Hazard and Juan Mata permanent fixtures of the side, with Oscar, Victor Moses, or Ramires occupying the third attacking slot.
For those who haven’t yet seen it, here is THAT volley from Taison against Rosenborg...
