England goalkeeper Jack Butland has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Premier League Stoke.
The Potters had a £4million offer accepted by Birmingham earlier in the day and the move was ratified late on deadline day after the young stopper agreed personal terms.
Butland, who rejected a move to Chelsea earlier this week in order to play regular football, will be immediately loaned back to Lee Clark’s Championship side for the remainder of the season.
‘It’s been an incredible day – a very exciting one, but I’m glad it’s finished,’ said Butland. ‘I love playing and I don’t want to sit on the bench. For me, it was important I went to a club where I can play and develop my game.’
The move finished off a good day for Butland who was earlier named in Roy Hodgson’s England squad to take on Brazil.
The 19-year-old is seen by Stoke boss Tony Pulis as an ideal long-term replacement for Asmir Begovic who is lined up for a move to one of the Premier League top four in the summer.
Stoke also completed the signing of wing-back Brek Shea from FC Dallas after the American international was granted a work permit.
