Villas-Boas not in it for the long-haul at Tottenham

Andre-Villas Boas may be busy plotting Tottenham's return to Champions League football, but that hasn't stopped the Portuguese from admitting his tenure at White Hart Lane will be a short one.

The 35-year-old only took up the reins at Spurs last summer after his ill-fated eight months in charge at London rivals Chelsea which ended in his sacking.

Twelve months on though AVB has rebuilt his reputation in North London, leading Spurs to within touching distance of qualification for next season's Champions League.

He is also credited for helping Gareth Bale's meteoric rise with the Welshman in the running for PFA Player of the Year after netting 23 goals from his new No10 role.

But as the plaudits continue to pour in, AVB admits he has no intention of becoming a 'one club man' like Manchester United's patriarch Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsenal's long-serving boss Arsene Wenger.

And while his immediate focus is establishing Spurs as a genuine force in England and in Europe, he is already eyeing up his next challenge which could possibly see him head for Brazil.

"At the moment I am very focused on trying to get another year at one club. The same club!," said Villas-Boas.

"I would one day like to take my career off the beaten track, I would definitely like to do that. Brazil, maybe.

"I would definitely move very, very soon to a club in a different league. I've always said I want to keep my managerial career short and that is still the case."

Villas-Boas has been linked in recent days with a move to Real Madrid to succeed mentor Jose Mourinho, who is widely expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer.

Another former Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti, is also in the running amid claims that the Italian on Wednesday informed Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to quit the club at the end of the season.

Ancelotti, chased by Madrid for "a long time" according to PSG, remains the favourite for the role, and although he is "honoured" to be linked with the post for now AVB is only thinking of Spurs.

"The speculation about Real Madrid comes from the coach having speculation all over the world about his exit," he said.

"The fact he made it public that he is looking for an exit has ended up with a lot of speculation. For me it is always an honour, but I am completely focused.

"It's obviously very flattering but I think at the moment everybody is being linked with the Real Madrid job because there are now lots of coaches around. This can happen with anybody."
