Rodgers backs young Liverpool players

Brendan Rodgers has urged Liverpool fans to have faith in his young players. The manager criticised his team after the 3-1 Boxing Day defeat away to Stoke with the exception of Suso and Jonjo Shelvey, who both started at the Britannia Stadium, and the substitutes Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson.

Rodgers before Sunday's visit to QPR said: "We have a lot of young players and what everyone will tell you is with young players you get inconsistency. That has been the highlight in terms of the area we need to improve on. But the only way they get that experience is by throwing them in and sending them out there. Suso will have benefited from 45 minutes away at Stoke. He'll be a better player for it and that will help us going forward." PA

Falcao to stay at Atlético

Radamel Falcao has no plans to leave Atlético Madrid, although he admits to being flattered by rumours that several leading clubs – including Chelsea and Manchester City – are interested in signing him next year. The Colombia striker's 17 goals have been a key reason why Atlético have kept pace with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. Falcao said at a conference in Dubai he was "very happy" at Atlético and planned to see out his three-year contract. His only concern was finishing a successful season, though he said that he "didn't know what would happen in the future". AP
