Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas says Jose Mourinho’s return to the Premier League would be ‘spectacular’ should the rumours of his comeback be proved true in the summer.

The former Chelsea boss has been strongly linked with a return to Stamford Bridge and gave the biggest indication yet that the rumours could be true, following Real Madrid's Champions League elimination on Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old insisted he is loved in England by clubs and the media, and Villas-Boas – who worked under Mourinho at Chelsea – says it would be great to see the Portuguese boss back in England’s top-flight.

‘He obviously wants to come back to England, whether he has a club aligned or not, we never know,’ said Villas-Boas.

‘It’s extremely unlikely when someone makes it that public that something is not set out already but he is a great addition to the Premier League. He has a wonderful history in this league and I think it will be spectacular to have him back.’

And another man who would welcome Mourinho back in England is West Brom boss Steve Clarke, who also worked with the Real Madrid manager at Stamford Bridge.

'I don’t know if he’s coming or not, that’s the truth,' said Clarke.

'I know he was happy here because he had a good job at a good club and we were successful. That’s what he likes, he likes to win football matches wherever he is.

'If he comes back, it’s great for the Premier League. If he does come back and we get the chance to play against him that would be great.'

It is widely expected that Mourinho will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, but speculation remains rife over his likely destination. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are currently thought to be fighting for his signature.
