With seven minutes remaining there appeared no chance of a crisis meeting at Cobham in the morning. Then inexplicably Chelsea let a two-goal lead slip against a Reading side that had offered nothing hitherto. Chelsea could even afford to keep Fernando Torres on the pitch for 90 minutes and still stroll towards three points.
