Capital One Cup: Chelsea demolished Wolverhampton while City falters at first hurdle

Chelsea booked their place in the next round of Capital One Cup after hammering past 6-0 to Wolverhampton on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge. The Blues rested some of their key players but there was no dearth of quality on the pitch as Di Matteo's side went 3-0 up before half-time through strikes from Gary Cahill, Ryan Bertrand and Juan Mata. The rout was completed after the break, as Chelsea inflicted further misery through a penalty from Oriol Romeu and efforts from Fernando Torres and Victor Moses. Elsewhere, Aston Villa stunned league champions Manchester City by winning the knock-out tie 4-2 in a dramatic fashion at the Etihad Stadium.
