Chelsea to Offload Nine In Summer Clear-Out Ahead of Move to Bring In World-Class Additions

Torres ClueStamford Bridge side ready to significantly trim their squad.

Chelsea are ready to conduct a significant summer clear-out as Roman Abramovich looks to trim his squad ahead of potential summer additions.

The West London side have one eye on UEFA's strict financial fair play (FFP) guidelines and another on improving their current squad, so clearly the only course of action is to make significant cuts to the size of the current playing staff.

The Daily Mail believe as many as nine first team squad players could be sacrificed this summer as the Blues look to recover from what has been something of a disastrous season.

Torres Fulham

Fernando Torres lead the list of players who could help bring in a decent sum should Chelsea find an interested buyer. Abramovich has apparently ran out of patience for a player who he shelled out £50m for and a player that effectively cost Roberto Di Matteo his job.

Some believe that the decision to axe the Italian was due in no small part to his being dropped for Chelsea's Champions League defeat to Juventus.

The Stamford Bridge side will take a loss on any sale, quite how much is hard to say but Chelsea would probably be happy to receive anywhere near half what they paid. The 28 year old striker has hit yet another patch of poor form, having now gone 11 Premier League matches without a goal.

Lampard Stoke City

Frank Lampard will apparently not be handed a new contract, a way of Chelsea cutting costs, and a ready made replacement may well be high up on Chelsea's summer sigh-list.

Though the 34 year old has been one of the few brights spots in an otherwise poor season Chelsea are unwilling to fork out huge sums to meet the veteran's salary and will opt instead to allow the England man to leave.

Lampard is on the verge of breaking the club's goalscoring record.

Paulo Ferriera will not be offered a new contract when his current deal comes to an end this summer, the Portuguese full-back has been at the club since 2004 but is little more than a back-up in extreme circumstances, last Premier League start came last May and only because the club was resting players ahead of Cup Finals.

Florent Malouda Chelsea

Florent Malouda suffered the humiliation of being forced to train with Chelsea's youth and reserve teams for much of the current season and Chelsea are desperate to offload the winger, who has at times been of great value to the West London side.

Has not played a single minute of senior football this season.

Yossi Benayoun has returned to Chelsea following an injury plagued spell on loan at West Ham and the souring of his relationship with interim boss Rafa Benitez during their shared time at Liverpool have pretty much put an end to any likely first team action this season and the Blues will look to sell the Israeli as soon as possible and are apparently willing to accept fairly minimal offers for the veteran midfielder.

Has made just one Premier League start for the Blues since his move to the club two and a half years ago, did enjoy a relatively successful loan spell at Arsenal last season.

Marin Exit

Marko Marin is also on the list of probable outgoing talent, despite only arriving last summer.

Chelsea will listen to offers in the summer for the German international Marko Marin as the 23 year old has been unable to retain a spot in the Blues first team and has suffered as a result of signings made that have greatly limited his involvement in the starting eleven.

Soccer - Carling Cup - Quarter Final - Blackburn Rovers v Chelsea - Ewood Park

Hilario has not been used all that much during his six and a half years at the club, the Portuguese custodian making just 20 Premier League appearances. When the 37 year old has been called upon he has looked shaky to say the least.

Chelsea will not offer the veteran a new deal this summer.

Micheal Essien is in the middle of a season long loan spell at Real Madrid and is seemingly surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are looking to garner a decent sum for the Ghanaian international, who still has two and a half years to run on his current contract.

Chelsea paid Lyon £24.4m for the tigerish midfielder back in the summer of 2005 and has served the club well but has found his first team chances greatly limited by the presence of John Obi Mikel, Ramires and Oriol Romeu.

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Chelsea v Aston Villa - Stamford Bridge

Young defender Jeffrey Bruma has been out on loan in Germany with Hamburg and the centre-back may well not be coming back to Stamford Bridge with Roman Abramovich seemingly willing to offloading the promising 21 year old.

Given that Chelsea can call upon Gary Cahill, David Luiz, John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic to fill central defensive roles it's fair to say that Bruma may be better off trying to forge a career elsewhere.
