ESPN claim that the 21 has earmarked a move to either Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea, Abramovich may feel the can happily challenge the La Liga giants on a financial footing but knows that Champions League football must be on the table to have any real chance of landing the Santos man.

Neymar Competition

Santos are hoping to keep hold of the talented youngster and there has been speculation that Neymar would remain in Brazil until after the 2014 World Cup finals but many sides may be keen to bring the prolific marksman to Europe sooner rather than later.

The presence of a number of Neymar's national team colleagues at Stamford Bridge may well also stand the West London side in good stead. The likes of David Luiz, Oscar, Ramires and Lucas Piazon making up a sizable Brazilian contingent at the club.

Abramovich knows that Chelsea supporters are not happy about the manner in which fan favourite Roberto Di Matteo was axed and even more devastated by the decision to bring Rafa Benitez to hold the fort as an 'interim' manager. A move to bring in one of the biggest young stars in world football could go someway to re-building bridges with the club's followers.

Neymar has netted 129 goals in 209 appearances for Santos and a healthy return of 17 goals from 27 appearances for the Brazilian national team.
