Al Jazira rule out move for Chelsea captain Terry

Al Jazira have joined Pro League rivals Al Ain in distancing themselves from speculation linking them with a move for Chelsea captain John Terry.

Reports in the British media had claimed the duo along with Sven Goran-Erikkson's Al Nasr were in the running to sign the former England skipper who is facing an increasingly uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

Again omitted from the Blues starting XI for their home win over West Ham on Sunday, Terry is reportedly unhappy with his current situation at the club.

A lucrative summer move to the UAE has been mooted, although the aforementioned clubs have been quick to dismiss claims plans are afoot to sign the centre-back.

An Al Ain spokesman told Sport360° on Sunday that the club had "no need" for the defender, while Jazira chief executive Carlo Nohra says he is unaware of any plan to sign Terry.

“No, it’s the first time I’ve heard of [the rumours], that doesn’t mean it is not true but I haven’t heard [the rumour]," Nohra told Sport360°.

"To be honest, we are considering our plans for next season as we speak, and while we have got as far as arranging when to speak, we haven’t discussed who we want for next season yet.

"That doesn’t mean there aren’t discussions going on but as far as I am aware [nothing has come up]."

Jazira have already used one of their foreign spots on a defender in South Korean Shin Hyung-Min, meaning - unlike Al Ain - they are willing to use one of the three foreign spots permitted on strengthening their backline.

But Nohra was keen to stress that Terry's lucrative pay pack at Chelsea would likely be too much to use any one player, less a 32 year-old defender.

"Affordability is one thing, whether we would be able to afford anything is another thing. I would say if John Terry is on £170,000 a week, it’s very unlikely we would match that. It’s a lot to pay for any player."
